QPK Design was Design Architect and Architect of Record for the adaptive reuse and transformation of a 12,852 SF, c.1914 storage garage (that once housed a theater) into a 3-story nightclub venue that integrates music, dance, theater and multi-media events. The poor condition of the exterior and structure required major interventions that transformed the face of the building.
The Palace Theater was designed with a unique image that appeals to students and other users. Structural conditions required partial replacement of the front portion while retaining original riveted steel trusses over the dance floor. A theatrical entrance canopy and sign highlights the facade. The first floor houses a dance floor, stage and bar. Access to the second floor bar is limited to 21 and older clientele. Usable basement space was created by lowering the floor slab over 2’-0” creating a game room that can be open during different operating hours. The design focused on bright colors, bold spatial layout and targeted lighting.
