Camp Smith Readiness

New York Army National Guard Reserve Units

This new facility was designed by QPK Design to consolidate nine New York Army National Guard Reserve Units into one state of the art readiness center at Camp Smith.

This 3-story facility accommodates diverse requirements including administrative and training spaces, electronic firing range, assembly hall, library/classroom, recruiting, physical fitness area, waste handling facility, learning center, kitchen, and flammable materials storage.

Located adjacent to Camp Smith’s multiple outdoor firing ranges, the Readiness Center design began with a site planning charette to identify base infrastructure revisions and locate the new facility.  Road relocation, site improvements and identification of collateral facility projects were included in a workshop based, client inclusive design approach.

The project included the coordination of all pertinent environmental permitting requirements and National Guard Bureau (NGB) regulations pertaining to armory design and construction.

The project was also designed to achieve SPiRiT Gold Certification (equivalent to LEED® Silver).
