Camp Smith Master Plan

The NY Army National Guard commissioned this master plan to guide facility planning and programming for future improvements. It comprised the 180± acre campus within the 1,580-acre Camp Smith Training Center. The comprehensive analysis covered 39 buildings totaling over 500,000 SF, several miles of roads and walkways, and approximately 5,000 parking spaces for private and military vehicles. The effort required field measuring all building and site assets, evaluating condition and potential utilization, and cost estimating, and phased implementation strategies.
Planning objectives included:
Optimum building space utilization and facility organization;
A unified sense of place with coordinated systems of materials, colors, forms and style;
Safe, efficient road networks;
Convenient parking areas screened from views;
Segregated, safe and comfortable pedestrian circulation routes;
Landscaping standards to define exterior spaces and circulation systems, and complement the architecture and; and,
Uniform site signage to effectively communicate facility locations and wayfinding.
