QPK designed the Adaptive Reuse of the former Coyne Laundry

Facility in downtown Syracuse into JMA Wireless’s New 5G

Manufacturing Facility and World Headquarters campus.

The design concept introduced a 40’ tall, east to west glazed

atrium that transitions the renovated office area building to the

new manufacturing facility. Circulation through the glass walled

and skylit atrium, allows for views of the assembly areas and

unites the varied building uses. Extensive use of skylights in the

manufacturing and office areas provide natural light to enhance

the working environment.

The glazed atrium is the break of space created between

the renovated office building and the new manufacturing

and assembly structure. It functions as an entry point for

all employees and visitors, transparent end to end. The

adjacent walls on the existing office building were opened

and glazed to provide maximum visibility to the 3-story glazed

curtain wall that separates manufacturing. Inside, the atrium

functions as a “mixing valve” of circulation, uniting various

levels between the office functions and Manufacturing while

displaying the grandness assembly area. The assembly

area, bathed in the natural light, is encircled with a catwalk

providing full observation and connection to 2nd story lab

spaces.
