QPK Design provided master planning and conceptual design services for the Syracuse Inner Harbor, a new pedestrian friendly mixed-use community/neighborhood using the principles and ideas of “New Urbanism”.The goal of the development was to create a new neighborhood preserving access and public use of the water and parks with a strong identity and density of urban fabric emulating the character and diversity of traditional urban waterfront development. QPK Design provided complete 3D visualization and dynamic working 3D models. The architectural style proposed was a complementary blend of contemporary architectural styles with the local vernacular. The most relevant examples were the Farmers Market, Downtown, Franklin Square, and public buildings along the Erie Canal waterway. The intention was to transform the Inner Harbor into an attractive, upscale waterfront community.A planned promenade would link to a landscaped park; and a proposed bike trail would run along the park merging with the promenade at observation platforms. The plan also called for existing historic structures to be renovated and integrated into the new development.
